Helping people thrive

50+ Forum

The 50+ Forum is an umbrella group of clubs in the Tower Hamlets area who provide services to elderly people and is co-ordinated by EECF. EECF have worked closely with the 50+ Forum since we set it up in 2005 to support initiatives that reduce social isolation and improve community cohesion and individual wellbeing amongst the elderly.

The group meets regularly to share information, ideas and issues that are affecting elders in Tower Hamlets. Representatives from organisations such as Age UK, the Metropolitan Police, Transport for London and Housing Associations also attend meetings on an ad hoc basis to discuss issues that have a direct impact on the elderly community.

EECF also run a series of events throughout the year to support the forum and promote social cohesion in Tower Hamlets.

Tea Dance

EECF have run very successful annual Tea Dances in Tower Hamlets since 2006 and held our first Hackney Tea Dance in 2013. The ever popular event brings together isolated elderly local residents to give them the opportunity to socialise and enjoy an afternoon of tea, cake and dancing.

Coach Trips

EECF’s coach trips to the seaside and other cultural areas bring together local elderly people in a fun setting, offering opportunities to make new and lasting friendships and create new bonds.

Christmas Food Bag Appeal

Each Christmas with the support of friendly volunteers from local businesses EECF distribute gifts of essential goods to elders across Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets who suffer from income deprivation and social isolation, bringing festive cheer to local residents in day centres and sheltered accommodation.

Recent statistics have revealed that Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham have the most severe levels of income deprivation among older people in England with almost 1 in every 2 older people in Tower Hamlets living in an income deprived household so our elders’ initiatives are becoming more important as a way to support those most in need.

If you are interested in getting involved with any of the above initiatives please contact Suzannah Wade, Events Coordinator via or phone 020 7345 4445 for more information.
