Brighter futures for young people

Investing in young people

We know how big the challenges are for young people in our communities. That’s why, through our Life Chances Campaign, we’re investing nearly £1 million to ensure young people get:

  • – structured, long-term support to secure training and employment
  • – experienced mentoring to tackle mental health and build confidence
  • – safe spaces to make friends, have fun and keep healthy

Employability programme

      Holiday programmes

Our Life Chances holiday programme each year supports over 2,000 young people across Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets. The projects are delivered by frontline organisations with a solid, track record in making a real difference to the lives of local children and young people.

In particular, projects aim to improve young people’s aspirations for the future, helping increase their literacy, numeracy and social skills. Programmes also work to improve physical health and wellbeing, with children having greater access to fun, outdoor activities and sports.

Improving mental health and wellbeing is a top priority, so mentors work with young people to help them tackle and reduce stress, anxiety and symptoms of depression.

Organisations also develop activities that enable young people to decide and create what they take part in. Participation opens up a new, wider friendship group and helps young people build a greater sense of belonging to their local community .

Our Life Chances holiday programme builds on the Newham Giving Fund that we managed for over nine years. In that time we distributed over £780,000 in grants, supporting over 10,000 children and young people.
