Parents’ IT training helps them support children’s schoolwork

One of the unique elements of our digital inclusion programme, Connecting Communities, is the provision of comprehensive training for parents. Computer and online literacy classes are delivered across seven weeks. The training helps parents to feel confident about using the laptop and accessing the school’s online resources, as well as giving them clear guidance to ensure their children use the internet safely.

Evaluations that we commissioned in partnership with University College London found that, of the schools who responded:

  • 76% agreed that parents had improved skills in digital literacy because of participating in the training.
  • 88% agreed that the training had enabled parents to effectively support their children with their schoolwork.

Sahera Begum’s son Mihran Islam, aged 9 (above) attends Thomas Buxton school in Tower Hamlets.

The training will really help me understand how to use critical features like parental lock and boost my children’s IT skills.
