Tackling pensioner poverty and isolation

Tackling pensioner poverty: supporting benefits take-up and digital inclusion

Pensioner poverty across London’s East End is 26% higher than the UK average with thousands of older people having to choose between heating their homes and eating. At the same time, vital financial support like pension credit – estimated at over £32 million in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and the City of London in 2020/21 – is going unclaimed. This is because many older people don’t know what benefits they can access, can’t complete the application forms or don’t know what information they should provide.

Through our Life Chances campaign, we’re working with Island Advice Centre to deliver benefits advice training to key frontline organisations in Tower Hamlets so they can help older people secure the benefits they are entitled to.

Watch our short film to see how Life Chances is making a real difference to the lives of older people.
