East London Cares is a community network of young professionals and older neighbours, taking an intergenerational approach to tackle loneliness, isolation and digital exclusion. Through social activities including Qigong, dance, wellbeing clubs, historical building visits, choirs, and neighbour-led skill share clubs residents share time, practical help and human companionship. The charity’s Tech Club enables older people to be supported by younger people in using digital devices.
“East London Cares connects older and younger neighbours through one-to-one friendships and an exciting array of free group social clubs.
Support from the Life Chances scheme will equip our staff to provide vital advice for our network of older neighbours on accessing pension credit and other benefits, which is needed more than ever as we navigate the cost-of-living-crisis.”
