Protecting our communities this winter

It’s clear that the cost of living emergency has become the new normal for tens of thousands of vulnerable East End residents. Fuel poverty across London’s East End is higher than the UK average, 40% of older people are living in poverty and in-work poverty is higher than the London average. That’s why we’re launching our Winter Appeal campaign.

We’re aiming to raise £100,000 to help over 3,000 vulnerable families and older people this winter.
And we’re increasing our investment to frontline community groups. Groups that are led by extraordinary people, delivering support day-in, day-out, for vulnerable families and residents.

Tracey Walsh, EECF’s CEO said, ‘It’s really concerning to see these sustained levels of deprivation. The frontline organisations we fund are telling us that vulnerable residents are really frightened. We know that families are already going without regular meals and this winter isolated older residents will again be at risk of malnutrition and hypothermia. Our Winter Appeal is just one aspect of the investment we’re bringing into the East End. We’re also encouraging others to collaborate with us through our Life Chances Campaign which is financing long-term, targeted support to bring lasting change in our communities.’
